A Christian Nation
August 20th, 2006
Was reading an article tonight that I found very informative. It’s titled “Is America a Christian Nation?” It can be found here. It is a very well written, highly factual document. I would definitely recommend reading it.
I’m not sure what my deal is with religion these days. I all of the sudden feel extremely irritated when thinking about the subject at hand. I would assume most of what I feel stems from my past. I grew up in Texas. A place where religion is basically shoved down your throat until you can no longer breath. (In a sense, you could call most of its residents breathless zombies doing what there told instead of thinking for themselves.) I never realized how much religion was forced upon me until i moved away. I am so thankful that I moved to California. A place where it’s OK to think for one’s self and have an opinion different from the guy next to you. That’s the beauty of this world. At least this part of the world.
In other news, our very own moon may soon be its own planet. Now there’s something you don’t hear everyday. According to scientist, as soon as the moon’s center of gravity (aka its barycenter) moves outside the earth, it will advance into planethood. Kind of oddly interesting fact. They say it’s moving away from the earth at a rate of a couple inches a year.
“None of this would occur for a few billion years. And Earth and the moon would have to survive a host of remote catastrophe scenarios along with the predicted swelling of the sun into a red giant, which Laughlin and others have previously said might engulf and vaporize our planet (unless we can figure out a way to move it).”When you think of it that way, it in essence belittles the existence of all of us. It all makes me feel a little better knowing that my being is really only like that of a piece of sand on the beach. Nothing really matters anyway…
