friday the 13th
I’ve been through the rain. I’ve been through a drought.
I’ve been through the scene, though often left out.
(No doubt without clout.)
I’ve witnessed ladies pass as gents, and guys kissing guys
not caring when bigots smirk, taunt, or despise.
It’s clear when great pride conquers the unwise,
for a heart filled with love glistens via two eyes.
I stand here resolved: fear and hate promote lies.
Disallowing compromise, their goal: to paralyze.
History has proven love breaks through all ties.
Why can’t we all be courageous likewise?
I’ve seen marriages falter; met kind souls who lent ease,
my eternal damnation* for not courting the ladies.
*to hadies, please!
I’ve heard gunshots, and tires screech, and people cryin’ their eyes out.
Let pretension subside as to guarantee my turn about.
Do mysteries surround the writing on the wall?
What treasures can abound as one looses every pound?
I call out to friends, though I screen every call.
My answer depends, I’m despondent; are you around?
I’m open and just, and tend to those whom I must.
I help, and I help, and I cry when I’m home,
“Who’s left to help those who help, but are alone?” *moan*
It’s raining. It’s pouring. The wind whistles loud.
I hate it. I love it. I’m up in that cloud.
Though it’s silent here. *tear*
When words no longer come, I’m stuck in my tracks.
If only I could, please, just finally relax. Xanax?
People ask, and they want, and they shout, “Debutante!”
Who cares? We’re the same, to shout that you’re lame.
Money is scummy. We all know that now.
So leave the past behind you, or it’ll stand right beside you.
And that’s never good’of course not. Hello?
You’ll keep wishin’ you should’ve always knowin’ you could’ve.
Come on, let time take its bow.
Please? Others would’ve.
A wish wounds the heart, so get past your big fear.
To do so is easy: put life in gear! (You know, start!)
Quit thinking what if, for you’ll make it, and take it,
and emerge once again that fine work of art!
But who cares anyway? The truth is some may.
Regardless, one day we’ll all end up stiff
with on our headstone some font, most likely serif. *oy vey*
